GOLD COAST ARENA LEARN TO PLAY HOCKEY PROGRAM 

 

Gold Coast Arena Learn to Play Hockey Program focus on skill development without the pressures of competition.  This is a progressive learn to play curriculum designed to introduce beginners to the game’s basic skills.  Participants are introduced to the skills of skating, passing, puck control and shooting.  Children learn through participating in practice drills and informal scrimmages under the direction of Gold Coast Arena Coaching Staff. 

 

Program Goals: 

  • A FUN, SAFE and POSITIVE experience for a child’s first contact with Hockey
  • An introduction to the concepts of cooperation and fair play
  • Development in a fun learning environment while instilling self-confidence
 Program Focus: 
  • Develop basic hockey skills based on participant’s skill level
  • Skating, Passing, Puck Handling, Turning, Stopping and Shooting
  • Build a foundation for future years
 Eligible Participants: 
  • Boys and Girls – 4 – 14 years old
  • Skating ability – Pass Snow Plow Sam 3 and/or Basic 1

Hockey 1 

  • Sit on ice and stand up
  • Proper stance
  • Forward across the ice
  • Forward two-foot glide, one time skater’s height
  • Dip or squat
  • Scooter pushes or T-push  (R&L)
  • Forward swizzles
  • Snowplow stop (one foot or both)
  • Backward skating
 Hockey 2 
  • Backward stance
  • Skating forward using full strides
  • Forward one-foot glides (R&L)
  • Backward hustle
  • Backward swizzles
  • Glide turns (both directions)
  • Moving snowplow stops
 Hockey 3 
  • Forward C-Cuts on circle (R&L)
  • Hockey turns (R&L), with speed in and out of turn
  • Forward slalom
  • Forward stop and starts
  • Backward V-stop
  • Lateral marching crossovers, both directions
 Initiation  
  • Forward one foot pushes on a circle (R&L)
  • Forward crossover glides-hold feet in crossed position
  • Forward crossovers – clockwise and counter clockwise
  • Backward C-Cuts in a line
  • Backwards one foot glide (R&L) one time skater’s height
  • Mohawk (R&L)
  • Hockey stops

Dates & Times: 

 

 Learn To Play Dates/Times:

The Learn to Play Class runs 9/12 thru 10/24

 Hockey 1 & 2 8:15am

 Hockey 3 and Initiation 9:30am

Tuition: 

$175.00 –  7 week Program

There will be a $15 Late fee for any signups recieved after August 31st

 

 

Equipment Requirements: 

The following equipment is required: Stick, Helmet, Hockey Gloves, Elbow Pads, Shin Pads, and Skates.
